Buchanan to GOP: hit Sotomayor on race

The MSNBC right-wing commentator is obsessed with destroying the prospects of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor and has gone over the top in urging Republicans on the Judiciary Committee to derail her path toward confirmation by the full Senate.

Huffington Post, noting that he considers Sotomayor a Hispanic trickster who learned English through chupacabra magicks in orations before people who cannot spell English themselves, said Buchanan had a full-blown panic attack in the pages of right-leaning Human Events yesterday.

The message in translation is that Republican solons, after failing to expose Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, must nail Sotomayor as a political activist whose career has been a lifelong effort to discriminate against white males to the degree necessary to bring about an equality of rewards in society.

“Sonia is, first and foremost, a Latina. She has not hesitated to demand, even in college and law school, ethnic and gender preferences for her own. Her concept of justice is race-based.”

Late yesterday, on “Hardball,” hosted by Chris Matthews, Buchanan sparred with Eugene Robinson, an African-American columnist for the Washington Post and winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for commentary in a tense segment.

Buchanan, visably angry and repeatedly referring to Sotomayor as an “affirmative action baby,” discounted her academic achievements and, in an ultimate nonsequitor, noted that Sarah Palin did not require affirmative action.

A senior adviser to President Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan, D.C. born Buchanan sought the GOP presidential nomination in 1992 and 1996, and ran on the Reform Party ticket in 2000.

Catholic social justice issues taught by the Jesuits in high school and Georgetown University apparently made no lasting impression.
