Courting Evangelicals

Among evangelical voters John McCain is no George Bush, giving
Barack Obama a rare opportunity as a Democrat to make his own pitch.

David Brody of CBN wrote that Obama is planning to unveil his own
outreach to younger evangelicals and Catholics.

It’s called the ‘Joshua Generation Project,’ a name based on the biblical
story of how Joshua’s generation led the Israelites into the Promised
Land.

The Brody File was told by source close to the Obama campaign that the
project will be the Obama’s outreach to young people of faith.

Brody added, “Yes, the Obama campaign understands the issue of
abortion is a problem for some people of faith. They respect that and
understand if some just simply can’t come on board because of that.

“However, they look at this project as a way of broadening the values
discussion. Poverty, Darfur, Climate Change and yes, even the war are
issues younger Evangelicals may be able to see eye to eye with the
Obama campaign.”

CNN Poll

McCain wins on foreign policy, 54% to 43%; Obama wins on the economy
50% to 44%. On having the qualities and personality to be president
McCain wins 66% to 63%, within the margin of error. Not good for McCain.

Quote of the Day

Tim Russert: The fact is you are different than George Bush.

Sen. McCain: No. No. I-the fact is that I’m different but the fact is that I
have agreed with President Bush far more than I have disagreed. And on
the transcendent issues … I’ve been totally in agreement and support of
President Bush.
