NFL future site: city or suburb?

I found a 25-inch Los Angeles Times’ Sunday opinion column, “Officials, not cheerleaders,” insisting that city and state lawmakers carefully evaluate AEG’s proposed downtown pro football stadium, a compelling counterpoint to flamboyant Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa who endorsed it long before ever receiving a formal proposal.

Noteworthy in the developing local buzz was that Super Bowl XLV was played Sunday in the ultra modern $1.15 billion Cowboys Stadium, no longer in Irving, a Dallas suburb, but nearby Arlington, Texas—just 18 miles away and less than a 30 minute drive. Ed Roski Jr., the billionaire developer, has long had in mind a rival stadium proposal for suburban Canyon Country, just 22 miles east of downtown L.A., between two freeways with less traffic congestion and far more tailgate space. Let the intense competition begin!
