Obama Veep Pick Settled

The New York Times reported Monday evening being told by aides that Barack Obama has “all but settled” on his choice for a running mate, with an elaborate rollout plan for his decision, beginning with an early morning alert to supporters, perhaps as early as Wednesday morning. Other sources suggested it could be Friday.

The decision remains closely guarded and Obama had not notified his choice – or any of those not selected.

Obama was said to be focusing on three main candidates: Evan Bayh of Indiana, Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Joseph Biden of Delaware.

Bayh and Kaine would help Obama in a state that Democrats are trying to put in play. Biden, as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, gives Obama credibility on foreign policy issues, his major weakness.

That Biden made a secret trip within days to assess the conflict in Georgia leads me to believe he may be Obama’s choice.
