Palin’s Rogue Tour

Over the Memorial Day holiday, and on different networks, John McCain, who lost the 2008 election, and Mitch Daniels, who decided family was more important than winning the Republican presidential nomination, reached the same conclusion: President Obama is beatable in 2012. But neither uttered a believable second sentence. McCain was a bit more forthcoming, admitting he’s unsure about whether Sarah Palin, his vice presidential candidate, will ultimately decide to run for the White House.

On Day Two of her bus tour Palin prompted more than a little chaos about what she’s really up to. Politico reported that the only reporters who made it to her brief media availability after her visit to the National Archives in Washington were tourists posting on Twitter that they had spotted her. Her distaste for what she calls the “lame stream” media is quite palpable.

Palin went to George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, where reporters were able only to take snap pictures of her from a distance. Fox News did capture Palin saying that she could beat Obama but has said nothing to encourage the belief that the trip is a precursor to a 2012 presidential bid of her own.

“This isn’t a campaign bus,” Palin said according to reports. “This is a bus to be able to express to America how much we appreciate our foundation and to invite more people to be interested in all that is good about America and to remind ourselves we don’t need to fundamentally transform America, we need to restore what’s good about America.”

CNN reported Monday that some of her supporters were starting to gather at midday at Gettysburg in the hopes she might be on her way. But by then, Palin’s bus was rolling into Mount Vernon, instead. Twitter at the moment is the route to follow Mama Grizzly.
