A new NBC/WSJ poll released at 4:21 PM PDT shows Mitt Romney putting some distance between himself and the rest of the Republican field. When tested against nine other candidates he takes 30% of the primary vote.

Sarah Palin received 14%, followed by Herman Cain (12), Rick Perry (8), Ron Paul (7), and Newt Gingrich (6). Four other candidates, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann and John Huntsman are below five%.

President Obama’s approval rating is 49%, where it was in April, before Osama bin Laden’s killing nudged it to 52%. So far sharp GOP attacks on Obama have not changed public opinion about him.
