Nader Flames Out

The perennial presidential candidate made his reputation as a consumer advocate with a 1965 book, “Unsafe At Any Speed,“ a famous attack on the automobile industry for resisting safety standards.

The 74-year-old gadfly is running again this year as the Lone Ranger, an independent with no money and no hope.

A progressive who never build the movement finally crossed the line yesterday by invoking race to criticize Barack Obama for downplaying poverty issues.

“He’s half African-American and wants to “talk white.” It gets worse.

Nader suggested that Obama is someone who’s not going to threaten the white power structure. “And they love it. Whites just eat it up.”

Democrats have been justifiably angry with Nader, the 2000 Green Party candidate. Many believe he cost Al Gore the election.

Ironically, both Nader and Libertarian Bob Barr are expected to take more votes away from Republican John McCain than they do from Obama.

It’s a disgraceful note to end what otherwise have been many career successes.

Nader has now become toxic at any political speed. It’s about ego, stupid!

Quote of the Day

*** “He’s some kind of biblical authority?” – James Dobson, a leading evangelical leader, accusing Obama of twisting the meaning of both the Old and New Testaments. (Ed. Note – Unlike previous Democratic presidential candidates, Obama has launched a major outreach effort to evangelicals and Catholics.)
