Bill Clinton’s hyperbole in trying to assure a White House restoration reached a new level of intensity and paranoia Sunday in South Dakota.

He claimed some were trying to “cover up” Senator Clinton’s chances of winning key states for the Democrats in November by pressuring uncommitted superdelegates to make up their minds prematurely.

“She’s winning the general election today and he (Barack Obama) is not, according to all the evidence,” the former president said.

Clinton’s information is outdated.

First, RealClearPolitics poll averages for the week ending Sunday showed Obama leading Clinton for the nomination by a +10.5% spread.

Second, RCP averages for the same time period had Obama ahead of John McCain by + 3% nationally, while Clinton led McCain by +1.4%

Third, in electoral rich California where Clinton swamped Obama on Feb. 5, a sea change has occured. The momentum is now with him. A new Los Angeles Times/KTLA Poll indicates Obama would defeat McCain by seven points if the election were held today. Clinton would eke out only a three-point victory.
