Vetting Governor “Shuck And Jive”

Rick Perry, to his great surprise, finds himself under the microscope. Here’s the Texas governor in Iowa with a cocky take on the subject. “There’s going to be a lot of probin’ and a lot of feelin’ and touchin’ and talkin’ and vetting the candidates and asking questions, he predicted.
ABC News noted the Des Moines Register reported that Perry “dodged questions from two farmers” at an Iowa Corn Growers Association meeting and hoped to pin him down on ethanol policy. Not satisfied that Perry would do enough to protect his livelihood, the corn and beans farmer said while he liked what the governor said on other issues “I just would not support him.”
This weekend the liberal web site, Think Progress, which sent a reporter to cover Perry’s Saturday events, posted a story titled: “Perry Says He Hasn’t Backed Off Anything‘ in His Book. Still Thinks Social Security Is Unconstitutional.” His spokesman said the governor is also reading a Baptist pastor on how Christian conservatives want to change the country’s direction.
Powell Not Sold on Obama
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell told CBS’s “Face the Nation” he’s not sold on the president he voted for in 2008. He told ABC News he hasn’t decided on whom he will vote for but there are some “interesting candidates” in the Republican field, and no one has yet to emerge in the leading position. Dick Cheney’s book is not kind to Powell and it will be curious to see if the general issues a stinging rebuttal.
What They Said
Jon Huntsman, a former Utah governor and ambassador to China, isn’t a serious contender for the Republican Presidential nomination. And that’s too bad, because Huntsman has been willing to say the unthinkable about the GOP – namely, that it is becoming the “anti-science party.” – Paul Krugman in The New York Times
“House Republicans are planning votes almost every week this fall in an effort to repeal environmental and labor requirements on business which they say will hamper growth.” The Washington Post
They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to reign in spending, Michele Bachmann, invoking God, according to the Tampa Tribune.
